TITLE: Assistant Farm Manager, Aquaculture
DEPARTMENT: College of Agriculture, Community and the Sciences REPORTS TO: Chair, School of Aquaculture and Aquatic Sciences EFFECTIVE DATE: Position will remain open until filled EMPLOYMENT STATUS: Full-time EMPLOYMENT CLASSIFICATION: Non-Exempt PRINCIPAL PURPOSE OF JOB: The Assistant Farm Manager in the School of Aquaculture and Aquatic Sciences coordinates with the Farm Manager, faculty and staff for effective management of the Aquaculture Research Center facilities in support of research and extension projects. SCOPE OF RESPONSIBILITY: Under supervision of the Farm Manager, the individual with assist with management of the Aquaculture Research Center (ARC) in support of research and extension projects. They will manage research ponds and maintain the physical plant of ARC facilities. They will also coordinate with the farm manager to supervise the Custodian II position, seasonal workers, and student workers. Essential Job Functions Coordinate with Farm manager, faculty, and staff for effective management of the Aquaculture Research Center facilities in support of research and extension projects. Assists in the maintenance, upkeep, appearance, and functionality of facilities and vehicles. Monitor and maintain research ponds. Performs minor mechanical, plumbing, and electrical repairs. Coordinate with the farm manager regarding budget creation and management for Aquaculture Research Center operations. Coordinate with the farm manager to maintain an inventory of supplies and chemicals. Assist with the preparation of purchase requisitions to obtain needed equipment and supplies. Assist with the maintenance of building systems and submit work orders for repairs as necessary. Coordinate with the farm manager and others to ensure compliance with appropriate safety codes and procedures. Maintain records as required. Perform miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned by the Farm Manager. OTHER DUTIES: The position will conduct other duties as required. QUALIFICATIONS: Bachelors degree in Biology, Aquaculture or related field preferred. At least one year of experience directly related to the duties and responsibilities is desirable. Herbicide applicator certification is desirable. KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, And ABILITIES Knowledge of aquaculture principles and procedures. Knowledge of building systems and routine maintenance procedures. Ability to perform some mechanical, plumbing, and electrical repairs Organizational and planning skills. Ability to maintain accurate records. Ability to operate a personal computer and related software packages. Knowledge of related safety and environmental regulations. Knowledge of University policies and procedures. Physical Requirements Work involves considerable exposure to unusual elements such as extreme temperatures, dirt, dust, fumes, smoke, unpleasant odors, and/or loud noises. Moderate physical activity. Requires handling of average-weight objects up to 50 pounds or standing and/or walking for more than four (4) hours per day.
