Job Title: Microbiologist

Location: San Diego, CA (Onsite, 5 days/week)

Employment Type: Full-Time

Job Summary:

We are seeking a Microbiologist II to support environmental monitoring and routine microbiology lab testing for cleanrooms, compressed gas systems, and water systems. This role requires experience in a microbiology lab within the medical device industry, with a strong background in GMP, GLP, and GDP regulations. The ideal candidate will be a team player with a keen attention to detail, capable of wearing multiple hats in a dynamic work environment.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

• Perform routine environmental monitoring testing for cleanrooms, compressed gas systems, and water systems.
• Conduct microbiological testing including, but not limited to, Bioburden, Growth Promotion, Gram Staining, and chemical analysis on water samples (total organic carbon and conductivity testing).
• Track and trend environmental monitoring program data, perform data entry, and generate quarterly reports.
• Communicate environmental monitoring excursions, coordinate investigations, and report findings across multiple departments (Manufacturing, QC, Sanitization, Facilities, and QA).
• Maintain laboratory compliance with all quality and regulatory standards.
• Support laboratory maintenance, including equipment upkeep, ordering supplies, and general organization.
• Assist with reviewing and revising procedures as needed.
• Flexibility to perform other duties as assigned or as business needs require.

Preferred Skills and Qualifications:

• Bachelor’s degree in Microbiology, Biology, or a related field.
• Minimum of 2 years of experience in a microbiology lab within the medical device industry (pharma/biotech experience considered but not academia).
• Strong knowledge of GMP, GLP, GDP regulations and ISO standards related to test methods.
• Hands-on experience monitoring HVAC, Cleanroom, Compressed Air, Compressed Gases, and Water systems .
• Proficiency in laboratory techniques, aseptic techniques, and good documentation practices.
• Ability to enter and analyze data, as well as write reports in a scientific format.
• Strong attention to detail, organizational skills, and ability to follow through on tasks .
• Team-oriented mindset with the ability to work in a small but impactful team environment .
• Flexibility to assist with additional projects as needed, including sending finished goods to contract labs (training provided).
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, Outlook) .
