The Daily Beast is seeking a talented and ambitious News Reporter to join our award-winning team on-site in New York. Overview The News Reporter will work in a fast-paced, dynamic newsroom with a focus on winning the trust and respect of our readers. They will cover the breadth of news and stories we focus on and ideate and carve out beat coverage. Responsibilities Cover a broad range of news stories and develop beat coverage. Write quickly and cleanly with flair, taking initiative and accepting direction as needed. Produce stories that stay ahead of the competition, weaving interviews, anecdotes, and exclusive details into compelling narratives. Develop sharp ideas and grow a network of sources to build original reporting and scoops. Collaborate with editors and other reporters to ensure comprehensive coverage. Meet quick deadlines and adapt to a shift pattern that may include weekend days (e.g., Tues-Sat or Sun-Thurs). Prior knowledge of web publishing and using a content management system is a plus. Qualifications Three or more years’ experience writing breaking news at a fast pace, ideally for large-scale outlets. A voracious news diet across digital, linear, and social media platforms; strong interest in politics, pop culture, power, and global issues. A strong, confident voice aligned with The Daily Beast brand. A team player with the ability to collaborate with editors and other reporters. A self-starter who can conceive and execute impactful stories, receive feedback, and work with minimal supervision. Comfort meeting quick deadlines and flexibility outside normal hours. The base salary range represents the anticipated low and high end of the salary range for this position and may vary based on location, experience, and other factors.
