Porter/Custodial Worker

Statement of General Purpose

The Porter/Custodial Worker is responsible for cleaning and maintaining the buildings and grounds of the Community Center.

Examples of Essential Functions and Responsibilities

• Cleans, paints, and maintains buildings and grounds throughout the Community Center property.
• Cleans bathrooms, floors, windows, sidewalks, walls, etc.
• Removes ice and snow from Center sidewalks and walkways.
• Performs preventive maintenance and minor repairs to Center buildings and equipment.
• Collects, stores, and removes trash, garbage, and refuse; replaces light bulbs; cleans or replaces HVAC and other filters; bleeds down feed-water valves; etc.
• Conducts regular inspections of buildings and grounds, and reports any unsafe or unsanitary conditions to Center management.
• Paints, varnishes, finishes, waterproofs, and performs similar functions for Center property.
• Performs related work as required.

Core Competencies

• Familiarity with the maintenance of electrical, plumbing, heating, ventilating, and air conditioning systems.
• Ability to perform cleaning, painting, waxing, disinfecting, and other custodial tasks.
• Ability to use hand and power tools and cleaning equipment.
• Ability to comply with instructions for the use of cleaning materials and chemicals.

Minimum Qualifications

• High school diploma or G.E.D., and
• Two (2) years experience in building maintenance and custodial work, or
• Any equivalent combination of acceptable training, education, and experience.

Other Requirements

• This position includes the normal physical demands associated with building maintenance and repair, including lifting, bending, and carrying large, heavy, and unwieldy objects; hazardous materials requiring special use and storage requirements; and travel to other facilities throughout the Philadelphia area.
• This position is subject to the overtime provisions of the Fair Labor Standards Act.
