Job Description Summary:

The Cisneros Hispanic Leadership Institute draws on the intellectual strength of the George Washington University and the resources of the nation’s capital to cultivate citizen scholars and innovative research focused on the Latino community. Research produced by the Institute examines current issues facing our country to encourage diverse perspectives in national dialogue and decision-making, while the Institute’s robust curriculum in leadership and professional development prepares scholars to make a difference as leaders for their communities.

The Cisneros Hispanic Leadership Institute seeks a Research Associate who will provide support to the translational research efforts of the Institute, with a specific focus on immigration and Latino-related issues. This role will report directly to the Director of the Cisneros Institute and will coordinate day-to-day research tasks, as well as manage the logistics for various public gatherings and presentations related to disseminating academic findings. In support of that work, this position will also while serving as a liaison for the Institute with external research and community collaborations and provide direct support in translating research findings into public-facing collaterals to that portfolio of collaborators.

Specific Responsibilities:

  • Carries out day-to-day coordination with academic collaborators in the Institute’s network.
  • Supports project logistics related to in-person and virtual translational research gatherings.
  • Conducts background research and literature reviews to prepare reports and manuscripts.
  • Collaborates with researchers to produce public-facing materials, including one-pagers, fact sheets, and letters of support.
  • Organizes and leads regular team and stakeholder meetings.
  • Analyzes data and interprets results.
  • Prepares technical reports and manuscripts for peer-reviewed publications.
  • Builds relationships with external partners and coordinates meetings, educational events, and briefings related to Latino and immigration policy issues.
  • Assists the Executive Director in the preparation of materials for policy-related trainings with Institute partner organizations.
  • Research Support. Provides support to Cisneros Institute leadership with background research related to Institute and collaborative projects; provides scoping research on policies and current affairs to support the translational efforts of the Institute; produces internal memos and lead informational meetings as relevant to share findings.
  • Translational Writing Support. Supports the production of public-facing materials, such as op-eds, briefs, and toolkits from academic research produced by the Cisneros Institute and its affiliates; coordinates efforts with communications team, as necessary, for the production of final reports and graphics that require technical insight.
  • Dissemination . Provides administrative and logistical support for Cisneros Institute hosted and co-sponsored events and promotions related to the promotion of research activities; collaborates with Communications Associate to distribute relevant collaterals to appropriate audiences.
  • Operations . Works with Cisneros leadership to manage policy research activities within established budget; coordinates internal and stakeholder meetings, as relevant; supervises student employees when supporting portfolio-related tasks.

Minimum Qualifications:

Qualified candidates will hold a master’s degree and 1 year of experience in a related discipline. Degree must be conferred by the start date of the position.

Additional Required Licenses/Certifications/Posting Specific Minimum Qualifications:

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience working with research in non-academic settings, especially related to immigration/human rights and/or Latinos in the United States;
  • Advanced training in public policy or public administration, such as an MPA or MPP, and/or familiarity with federal policy and administration landscape;
  • Ability to interpret findings in the broader social sciences;
  • Experience with public-facing writing, such as op-eds and briefs;
  • Experience with instruction and/or providing constructive feed back to small groups;
  • Comfortable collaborating in a diverse work environment with faculty, researchers, and external partners.

Typical Hiring Range

Commensurate with Experience.
