Job Description\n

American Traveler seeks an experienced RN for a Correctional Med/Surg Telemetry role with rotating day/night shifts and required EPIC experience.

\n \n Responsibilities\n

• Position is in a secure corrections unit serving state inmates within a hospital environment
• Duties include floating to various Oncology Medical-Surgical units as needed
• Patient population includes oncology and non-oncology adult inmates, with diagnoses ranging from solid tumors and hematology to surgical cases, COPD, sepsis, and pneumonia
• Nurse to patient ratios are 1:3 for PCU and 1:4-5 for Med/Surg units
• Rotating 12-hour day and night shifts may be scheduled, with assignments reviewed every 4-week scheduling period
• Weekend shifts required, with schedule based on unit needs
• EPIC is the documentation system and experience is required
• Medication management system includes Pyxis
• Corrections Officers maintain security and control access; CO to inmate ratio is 1:2
• Responsibilities include management of patients with oncology and non-oncology diagnoses, telemetry monitoring, central and peripheral line care, blood administration, and advanced airway management
• Strong security protocols are in place; access to the unit is strictly controlled
• Support services include pharmacy, respiratory, rapid response, physical therapy, radiology, social services, transportation, and interpretation
• Scrub requirements follow standard hospital guidelines
• Local candidates are accepted at the same rate as travelers
• Time off requests must be submitted with the application and built into the contract
• First time travelers considered
• Current employees of Ohio State University hospital locations are ineligible for traveler roles

\n \n Requirements\n

• Active OH or Compact RN license in hand
• BLS certification required
• Medical-surgical and telemetry experience required
• EPIC charting experience required
• Evidence of education from an ACEN or CCNE accredited nursing program
• IV therapy, phlebotomy, cardiac monitoring, airway management, and management of various protocols and lines is required
• Two professional references required, with at least one recent manager, director, or charge nurse
• Candidates must complete Ohio fingerprinting process promptly upon contract signing
• Former employees are eligible if more than 6 months have passed since previous employment
