The Associate Director of Government Relations is charged with spearheading initiatives to boost Wentworth Institute of Technology's interactions and collaborations with government entities. This role focuses on developing and enhancing revenue streams through strategic partnerships, government grants, and contracts that support the Institute's objectives. The ideal candidate will leverage a deep understanding of government operations and funding opportunities to foster relationships that advance the Institute's strategic goals.

Primary Responsibilities:
  • Strategy Development: In collaboration with the AVP, craft and implement a robust government relations strategy that maximizes funding opportunities and aligns with the Institute's long-term goals.
  • Relationship Management: Cultivate strong, ongoing relationships with key government stakeholders, elected officials, and policy influencers to promote the Institute's interests and initiatives.
  • Legislative Monitoring: Keep abreast of legislative, regulatory, and policy changes that could create new opportunities for Wentworth. Synthesize this information to deliver strategic advice and updates to senior leadership.
  • Grant and Opportunity Identification: Proactively scout and identify grant opportunities and revenue-generating initiatives where Wentworth can engage with state and federal governments. This involves analyzing funding landscapes, anticipating government priorities, and aligning them with the Institute's strategic goals for institutional advancement.
  • Proposal Leadership: Collaborating with the development team, lead cross-departmental collaborations to prepare and submit compelling grant applications and contract proposals. Ensure alignment with government priorities and compliance with procedural requirements.
  • Advocacy and Representation: Act as a representative of the Institute in interactions with government bodies, including attending meetings, hearings, and other relevant events to identify and develop new opportunities for the university.
  • Departmental collaboration: Work in close collaboration with the Advancement, Industry, and Foundations leads, and other Institutional Advancement colleagues to ensure that revenue goals are met fostering a unified approach to funding opportunities

Required Qualifications:
  • Educational Background: Bachelor's degree in Public Administration, Political Science, or a related field required; Master's degree strongly preferred.
  • Professional Experience: At least 5 years of proven experience in government relations or public policy, with documented success in securing substantial government funding.
  • Knowledge of Government Procedures: Comprehensive knowledge of the legislative process, government funding protocols, and key policy areas relevant to higher education.
  • Communication Skills: Exceptional written and verbal communication abilities, with a knack for persuasive communication and strong negotiation skills.
