Associate Professor in Information Science (School Librarianship) Department/College College of Information Dates Opening Date: 10/28/2024 Closing Date: 10/28/2025 Job Description The Department of Information Science at the University of North Texas (UNT) invites applications for a tenure/tenure-track Associate Professor position in Information Science with a focus on School Librarianship to begin in Fall 2025. We are seeking excellent candidates with interests relating to school librarianship, school libraries, data literacy, information literacy, and library and information science education. We are particularly interested in candidates who can play a strong leadership role in further strengthening the Department’s school librarian certification program. The candidate must demonstrate a record of research accomplishments or preparation of forthcoming research and have the ability to design and deliver courses in a variety of formats, including online and hybrid modalities. We seek a candidate who will provide inspiration and is motivated to be a leader in research and teaching, who can leverage the strengths of the department’s dynamic faculty and programs, and who will build collaborative relationships in the University and profession. Job Duties The candidate is expected to teach both undergraduate and graduate (master’s and doctoral) level courses, recruit school library students, build partnerships with school library communities through regular outreach activities, conduct research, and provide service in an academic position in library and information sciences. The candidate is expected to work with doctoral students and to lead and serve on dissertation committees. This is a nine-month, full-time, tenured or tenure-track position. Experience/Qualifications/Knowledge/Skills Minimum Qualifications: The minimum requirement for appointment is an earned doctorate in information science, education or other related fields at the time of appointment. Candidates will demonstrate evidence of effective teaching, research, and scholarship with experience/expertise in the broad area of information science and the specific area of school librarianship. Preferred Qualifications: Preference will be given to candidates with school library certification, demonstrated experience of outreach to school districts, and an excellent track record of funded scholarly research and publication.
