Job Description

We are looking for a Senior Director Regulatory Affairs in Washington D.C.

As the Senior Director Regulatory Affairs , reporting to the SVP of Food Safety, Quality and Regulatory, you will be the lead advocate to advance the interests of Conagra Brands and our affiliates by leading key food safety and food processing regulatory public policy issues and regulatory developments. You will also promote our goals in regulatory oversight and food safety through a joint federal legislative and regulatory strategy and work with the food and product safety team, product suppliers and our government relations team. You will be our subject matter expert in understanding and designing strategies and projects to advocate for key regulatory activities and policies and be the primary lead to develop relationships with government agencies (FDA, USDA, etc.), trade associations, and related industry groups. You will also collaborate cross-functionally and communicate with functional operating leadership on matters relating to regulatory topics of importance to the enterprise.

What You'll Do

  • Maintain in depth and state-of-the-art knowledge of FDA, USDA, EPA, and FTC regulations and work directly with government agencies, trade associations, and industry groups to help shape the regulatory environment and establish Conagra as a respected leader in the external regulatory environment.

  • Develop regulatory strategies that promote corporate growth and profitability and influence industry and regulatory bodies to achieve them.

  • Participate in regular public meetings and external industry forums to support mitigation and management of relevant issues with partners within industry trade associations and affiliations.

  • Identify and address potential regulatory risks to the company and brands.

  • Champion a culture mindset of food safety first and foremost both horizontally and vertically across the Conagra enterprise.

  • Provide a dedicated, dynamic regulatory horizon scanning process map based on Conagra's portfolio, future strategy that manages and mitigates risk while ensuring business continuity.

  • Manage external resources to address strategic regulatory topics.

  • Lead cross functional resources, internally and externally, to address current and latest regulatory issues and opportunities and related impact on products and product technology.

  • Identify, develop and implement programs to increase efficiency, speed, and quality of regulatory responses and focuses internal and external activities to meet our goals.

  • Identify, develop and maintain external network of experts who can be leveraged when confronted with emerging regulatory and compliance issues.

  • Manage and provide guidance to Regulatory Affairs staff and educates and informs non-departmental leadership on matters of regulatory importance.

What You'll Bring

  • Strong track record of both direct and matrix leadership of internal and external professionals

  • University degree required. Advanced degree highly preferred (JD or PhD

  • 10 + years of food industry regulatory and people management experience

  • Prior experience in advising and/or representing food industry interests on legislative activities and regulatory agencies.

  • Extensive knowledge of the policy and regulatory rule making process, including the dynamics of politics at the federal level.

  • Advanced knowledge of FDA, USDA, CFIA, Prop 65 regulations and requirements. Global regulatory experience is also desirable.

  • Advanced knowledge of food product development, processes, and food safety.

  • Experience leading multiple complex projects simultaneously in a matrixed organization.

  • Ability to research regulatory issues, influence resolution and collaborate effectively.

  • Detail-oriented and proactive in driving business growth.

  • Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Office Products, Adobe and SAP-PLM.

  • Location: Washington, DC or vicinity preferred.

  • Ability to travel up to 20% of the time.
